jonny.gotham is the design identity of Jonathan Lu — part designer, part engineer, part architect. I currently work as a specialist, creating solutions and solving puzzles for clients.

Much of my work involves figuring out how to get an idea from start to finish. Sometimes there is a concept where the exact means of execution is uncertain… Other times, internal resources are insufficient to complete the job… It is under these circumstances where many of my clients have found me to be most useful. Aside from standard design and development projects, my background and experience allow me to help organizations and businesses problem solve. That means helping different departments and personnel understand each other and collaborate. That means filling the gaps in skill sets for in-house teams to get a project done. That means having a resource that can understand and actively work in design and development, while at the same time comprehending the requirements of business, management, and accounting (yes, that evil word: budget). The key is being able to effectively communicate and speak the language of each team, understanding their concerns, and finding a way to get everyone on the same page. In that respect, I have helped build many bridges for organizations.

Style & Method

Most of my projects involve designing solutions for the web, whether they are interactive user experience sites or major applications. Often there is a strong emphasis on using web standards, maintaining accessibility, and improving usability. I believe in simple, elegant solutions, both aesthetically and programatically. I also have experience in developing brand identities and in print design. I am also looking to learn and work in the areas of industrial design, product design, and clothing design.

Personal style? I like ties, high-collared jackets, and hats…
